Today’s game is Zomboid. I’m finding it hard to let go of Dead Money (fully intended). Me and my friend continued the story of Cable and Jerry tonight instead.

We camped out in this house we found, made some steak, and I went searching for a car. I was jumped by maybe 10 zombies outside a police station and managed to find the key and get in and loot it. So we’re set on guns for now. I also found a Ranger Truck to drive, but on my way back my friend got bit. I had to put him down and he respawned.

I walked to the other side of town because the truck was low on gas and we bumped into each other when I was searching for a car to pick him up in. We went on a brief walk through town trying to find a gas can to siphon gas. We didn’t find one but we did find a Van with a key in it (had to break the window to get at it though) and a Van with a full tank. I used bottles to Siphon gas out if the one with a tank and we started the car and drove home from that little adventure.

(Bonus pic of me standing over My Friend/Jerry’s Son Cable’s Corpse after putting him down (he put his clothes away so he would be able to find them after respawning))

Zomboid was originally inspired by CDDA. Much of the game flow and ideas are 1 to 1 copies. The biggest difference is that CDDA is a turn based game that is played on tiles (think rogue or nethack). From the inventory system to crafting to base construction to reading books, it’s all there.

Oh. Except bites aren’t instant death. There’s no zombie virus. Dead bodies rise up (including yours!). You can still get infections and die from them, but you can also just clean your wounds. 1v1-ing a zombie is suicide though unless you have a decent weapon.

Also, zombies evolve… So they scale well into the late game. Having a zombie hulk throw you through a concrete wall and breaking every bone in your body is usually lethal.
