Are Latino street gangs a thing that people legitimately fear in America? I’m not saying they don’t exist or that there aren’t people who have an actual fear of these gangs, but for the broad majority of Americans, would they have ever even known about these gangs or cared about them if the GOP wasn’t trying to present them as a bogeyman? I think the only other time I’ve heard about them is from Breaking Bad, maybe every so often a news piece about Mexican gangs (which in Mexico they do seem to have some amount of power).
America is a big place. So not everyone fears them everywhere. But in some sections of bigger cities, gangs are a legitimate problem. Something that local politicians should deal with. Not really worthy of a presidential discussion though.
