WE HAD A GOOD THING YOU STUPID SON OF A BITCH!
We had 3PA’s, we had all the free labor in the world, just from passionate people who wanted to share the things they love, we had bots to fight spam, and extremely talented developers who made your stupid website work on mobile. It all ran like clockwork, if you could have just shut your mouth we’d all be fine right now.
But no, you just had to blow it up. YOU, AND YOUR GREED AND YOUR EGO.
Edit: grammar
Yeah man, at least the communities I love are pretty tech savvy (programming, web, open source, gaming), so it wasn’t much of a hassle to do the jump.
But I just think of all those cool woodworking, cooking, music playing, history searching, drawing communities that just wanted to share something they loved, they will have it harder to accommodate to a new home and it breaks my heart.
All of these used to live in independent forums until they were lured in into Reddit and as of 2015 they all were there so the enshittification began. All Web 2.0 platforms ran by megacorps begin with blazing fast convenient services, nowadays even Google Search is rigged and next to useless now. Google Images with superior search tools, sort by oldest, no SEO bullshit, view image and reverse image search were all present in 2014.
Look how long it takes to load and compare it to modern GS
