Last night, I finally made the switch from Reddit to Lemmy. Honestly it was something I should have done a long time ago. I’d been hearing about Lemmy for a while, but I kept brushing it off because it seemed complicated or too niche or too techy. But after one too many encounters with power-hungry mods, desperate upvote chasers, and a flood of obvious bots, I hit my breaking point. I actually ended up learning more about Lemmy from people venting on Reddit itself, which was kind of ironic!!

I set up an account here, took a last look around Reddit, and bailed. Reddit used to feel like a genuine community, but now it’s just a money-hungry platform, clearly trying to squeeze out every dollar as it spirals down. Lemmy might be new to me, but at least here, it feels like voices still matter. I know you guys already know this, but I want to throw it out there: You all are right!

Block people you don’t like because they will drive you insane if you let then.

I did find that out already. Geez! I’m assuming since this space is a bet more techy, maybe more neurodiversity is represented here? Because oh man, I’ve been on for less than a day and I already had to block two people who just wouldn’t stop or get the context! lol Still like the vibes here more than reddit though.

You had to block people with a disability because youre assuming their disability causes trolling? Im not understanding. Can you explain better? Sounds like youre dancing around using autism as a slur.

I’m sorry, I think I misread. Did you just say you blocked two people for being neurodivergent?

You did misread. Now I did not block them for being neurodivergent. I blocked them because they wouldn’t stop trolling me and sending me dm’s. So it was easier to block them. But i have noticed from my interactions with many on here, that there may be a larger percentage of neurodivergent individuals on Lemmy than other places i go to.

        Would you disagree?

Since youre diagnosing Im assuming youre a mental health professional. What flavor of neurodivergence were the people you blocked and what was the diagnostic criteria?

How do you go about classifying them? I.E. what behaviors are you spotting that are helping you to identify them?

Yeah some people do not get the hints lmao but at least they’re passionate. Also I forgot to mention, if you cant find a community you should create one and then make a post in [email protected]

This aspect isn’t even a social media problem but a people problem. In any pool of users, there will be ones that aren’t constructive. It’s a price paid to have an open platform.
