I would just love to see Lucas back at the helm. Or at least let that man build his world and general story.
Just needs someone to occasionally slap his hands and say no, like in the OT.
For all the shit people gave him, he’s also the one that set up everything before corporate Disney took over.
Some might not enjoy 100% of his stuff, but at least he didn’t focus so excessively on the unnecessary parts of the franchise.
Lucas is an awful writer. The OT succeeded because he had collaborators willing to tell him as much. The prequels sucked because he was put on a pedestal.
I didn’t love the prequels, but like you say with the right team he can make magic. I think he could be like creative director or something over someone doing the grunt work, so his influence would be strong, but not have him be fully, directly in charge.
