I’m hoping to get more involved in Lemmy and the iPod community! There is a lot of fun to be had in rebuilding old iPods. I hope to foster that community here. I enjoyed the subreddit but do not see a presence here.

I used to run an iPod refurbishing business. I really enjoyed putting Elna Silmic II caps, CF cards, extra batteries, and custom HPF’s into an assortment of ipods, mainly minis, but also some first/second gen.

Good times! I also hope this community replaces the current reddit presence.

Thanks for sharing! That’s cool of you to run. Was considering doing the same. What made you stop?

Just ran out of money at the time and couldn’t afford to keep it up. I probably only had less than twenty sales, but it was so awesome to get emails from customers talking about how they were so pumped to get to experience music more intentionally again, and the nostalgia factor is pretty unbeatable on old iPods.

If you’ve got the spare time and funds to do it, I know retro tech is just growing in demand lately, so you’ll probably be able to find enough customers to make it worth your while 👍🏻 and it’s just damn fun to do!

Awesome photos! Thanks for sharing. In trying to build this new community would you be willing to make a post and share what they are? I honestly have no idea what the extra wiring is and am curious
