Summary

On Monday, Yemen’s Houthi rebels unsuccessfully targeted U.S. Navy destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Spruance with drones and missiles in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key trade route.

The attacks, which involved over a dozen projectiles, resulted in no damage or injuries. The Houthis have escalated Red Sea assaults since the October 2023 Gaza conflict, disrupting global shipping.

Recent U.N. reports indicate the Houthis may be extorting millions monthly from shipping companies. The U.S. has responded with airstrikes on Houthi positions, aiming to counter the group’s expanding threat.

They aren’t just targetting military targets. Also it literally says in the synopsis that they are extorting civillian vessels. They aren’t freedom fighters, they are terrorists with an excuse.

Well, I for one am fine with them attacking foreign military navy ships of their own coast.

Not the the attacking of civilian vessels though (unless we’re talking about Israeli owned or Israeli bound ones were I’m a bit more conflicted - there should be a blocade and sanctions of Israel, but attacking civilians is wrong) and if they’re indeed extorting shipping companies then that’s just criminality rather than any sort of resistance.

It’s not really “their coast”. Also I am against all forms of terrorism or warfare.

And yes, even the Israeli vessels that are heading for Israel.

We have global standards defining what is “international waters” vs what a country can claim ownership of.

If this terrorist group is attacking anything in “international waters”, they are in the wrong
