After being harassed in multiple discord channels by powermod FlyingSquid the news mod blackbeard has shuttered his account and moved to bluesky.

"The recklessness with which people downvote polite disagreements reminds me of all the worst parts of Reddit, and it proves to me that this isn’t the social media savior I’d hoped it would be, and is instead just another echo chamber. I hope eventually lemmy.world (and the fediverse more broadly) can grow out of that, but some of the behavior I’ve seen on the inside from both mods and admins doesn’t really inspire much confidence for that kind of evolution in the short term. "
FlyingSquid is the same mod who has the power to siteban people from lemmy.world
Why does lemmy.world keep having issues with their powermods and admins? Why do powermods get the ability to siteban their enemies from the largest instance?
I mean, putting rules in a sidebar is implicitly a threat to ban any account in a community. This is what you Reddit fans want. There are myriad ActivityPub options. You chose the one that looks and operates like Reddit and can barely communicate with the rest of the federation. Mastodon hardly sees anything on here and vice versa, even once federated. It takes janky behavior like pinging @[email protected] to get anything submitted to it. You guys LOVE reddit more than anyone else on earth.
So you’re gonna tell me you don’t like operating under the threat of banning? You love it! You love reddit mods!
Daw. You think that you shouldn’t have any rules? How fast would that go downhill, hmmm? The rules aren’t to power trip. It’s to keep it civil, and on topic.
But you knew that. You just love being an ass.
Oh, and zero of your community bans are from .world
Whoever is forcing you to feel the need to stay here should stop. You deserve to have agency.
I hope this helps you.
