Just watched this movie. Someone recommended me a long time ago, but I never got to watch it. I was tearing up at the end.

    Take Brokeback Mountain

    Add

    • Yorkshire accents so thick I had to turn the subtitles on
    • Frontal nudity (BBM seemed oddly sexless to me)
    • A happy ending

    Result: Better than Brokeback Mountain

I dont know why all gay romantic movies end up with sad endings. There’s another “romantic” movie where one of them ends up killing the other with a knife and running away because he was afraid of homosexuality.

For this one, even though someone already told me it had a happy ending, i was still thinking they were not going to end up together

Have you heard of the bury your gays trope? It’s a pretty common theme with queer characters dying but it’s getting better.

No, this is the first time i heard about that.

Another movie that I really like is free fall. Not sure if you have watched but spoiler alert: no one dies, but it is still a sad ending

No I’ve not seen that I’ll check it out!

The bury your gays trope does seem to be dying out now and there are more and more positive/normal representations but you can still catch it. Brokeback Mountain was a classic example of it, but that’s quite old now.

Yup, these all sound like major improvements to me, most of all the happy ending. I found Brokeback to be a total downer

      Will look out for this
