Summary
A study of 2,000 women shows that frequent use of personal care products during pregnancy or nursing, such as makeup, floss, and hair dye, significantly increases toxic PFAS (“forever chemicals”) levels in blood and breast milk.
PFAS, linked to cancer, birth defects, and immune disorders, were particularly high among women using makeup daily or dyeing hair during pregnancy.
These chemicals pose severe health risks to developing children, including lower birth weights and neurodevelopmental issues.
While some states are limiting PFAS in products, identifying them remains challenging due to inadequate labeling.
It feels like there is absolutely no winning against PFAS with the corporations in control. Every new study shows that the things we interact with daily are killing us. I am very glad that some nice yachts and summer homes were purchased for our collective health, though.
Also, floss? In pregnancy and while breastfeeding, women are more likely to develop dental problems and it’s more important than ever to floss. I guess it makes sense to use the cotten thread floss and not the plastic stuff.
