Summary

Starting in April 2025, Tokyo government employees will have the option to work a four-day workweek.

The Tokyo government is also exploring a partial vacation system for parents of elementary school-aged children and considering ordinances to promote women’s participation in the workforce.

155 hours over 20 workdays is 7.75 hours a day. They allow one day off per month now, and would allow four. The question that isn’t answered is if it cuts your hours, or if you have to work it off as 4x10hrs instead. Also, I don’t know about time off in Japan - is it in addition to regular time off or what.

Obviously 4 8 hour shifts would be ideal but I have done 4 10s for the past 4 years and would absolutely never be willing to go back to 5 8 hour shifts.

Yeah but 4x10 misses the entire point of it. Also, I work production + bueraucracy and holy crap would I not want to do 4x10, I’m done after 6hrs max.

I agree and it’s why I highlighted that 4 8s would be better.

I’m just saying IMO if you’re working 40 hours a week no matter what I would always pick 4 10s over 5 8s.

3 day weekends feel short to me now, think ill die of depression if I went back to 2 day weekends.
