Research shows UK police arrest environmental and climate protesters at three times the average global rate

Something of a meaningless comparison if the study doesn’t normalise for the actual actions of the protesters.

As much as the intention is admirable, glueing yourself and others across all lanes of a busy motorway, as well as climbing signage over motorways, etc, is bound to attract attention from police. And that is the kind of climate activism that’s been gaining traction in the UK.

I am massively, massively against the farmers on this IHT debate. So I think they should go home and shut the fuck up, personally.

I don’t know why you’d think I’d be pro farmers.

A large portion of climate activism that is reported on is the ones that impact every day people just trying to make ends meet. This just makes people angry, and not at the right people that have the power to make positive changes but at the activists.

I don’t know how activists like Just Stop Oil could get people on their side, but ruining things that are part of history and being a nuisance to the every day person just trying to survive doesn’t feel like the right way.

I think you’re missing the point of such distruptive protesting. It’s a reflection of the seriousness of the situation and the lack of progress through more respectful and peaceful means that has lead to this point. They impose themselves on the average person-in-the-street to push the message harder. Yes people don’t like it, but that’s half the point as it gets the attention required. It’s not meant to be nice, it’s not meant to be pretty. Making people angry at the inconvenience is also part of the point as so many people are ignoring the issue in favour of maintaining the comfortable status quo. And it’s this comfortable status quo that is at threat, but people don’t see it or want to admit it. Getting people on side is only any good if they’re sufficiently riled up, so I don’t think they’re really losing anyone through these tactics.
