At my last job, they merged two management positions into one, and refused to give me a raise for doing both jobs. I had to turn in my resignation to get a 10% raise.
i had the a similar experience, but with a different end. i begged for a raise because i was underpaid, and working 60+ hours a week in several different contexts for a small county government… the board denied it, so i went and found a new job and was prepping to leave. thats when they begged me to stay. when the county admin specifically asked what he could do to make me stay i said ‘you can resign’, knowing i was already outta there.
they attempted to outsource my job for a month or so, and then promptly hired 2 people to replace me.
