I was heavy gaming back in the days of WindowsME.
It ran smooth for over 6 months 24/7 without fail.
How? - It was mostly software firewalls (but other certain software).
Why only 6 months? -Shutdown to install a new GPU.
Same thing happens in Linux, VLC would hard crash it, Bombermaaan, etc.
I fixed many WinME computers by uninstalling their software firewalls. -Black Ice Defender was a common culprit.
