Rules: explain why

That has to be one of the cringiest movies I’ve seen, is tries so hard, too hard with it’s “WE LOVE YOU NERD, YOU’RE SO COOL FOR PLAYING GAMES AND GETTING THIS 80S REFERENCE” message and the whole “corporation bad, the people good” narrative seems written for toddlers… The fan service feels cheap and adds nothing to the story.
Finally, they trying to make the people believe that very attractive girl with a barely visible red tint spot on her face is “ugly”… Like wtf?
Yet it received decent reviews plus being one of the most successful movies of that year.
Okay I’ma need some things you do like. And I want some t.v. shows, a few movies, and some music/bands. Not that I necessarily disagree with any of your choices.
So for superhero type movies I actually like I’ll go with Unbreakable series. No CGI fest, just good characters and acting.
Kill Bill I don’t have a good comparison because I’m not into that type of movie but for revenge style films I’ll say Old Boy, maybe Memento but that’s a weird one but still good IMO.
The Crow was to cringe for me but I really liked Dark City which was equally cringe but pulled it off so much better with the same dark mystique of the crow.
TV shows - I’ll argue to the death the Frasier is one the best written and acted series of all time and we will never get a show that clever again. I’ve watched it through 10+ times and every time I notice more small things that blow my mind about how well fleshed out these characters are. Same for Bojack horseman, that shit is pure genius. If you haven’t watched it do so immediately. Mr Robot was also an awesome show with tons of great acting and plot.
Music, I admittedly don’t have the best taste in, I grew up in the punk scene but outside of punk my favorites are modest mouse, Primus, Rx Bandits, Incubus (older stuff) and others I can’t think of at the moment. Punk stuff my taste was mostly 90s skate type like Lagwagon, NOFX, strung out, propagandhi, bigwig. Some don’t consider Bracket punk, myself included, but they are deceivingly talented. Think folk-punk with a beach boys singing style, really good shit.
Books are my main thing but I have horrible taste in those. I’m addicted to shitty sci-fi and litrpg even though I’m not a gamer.
The Bobiverse by Dennis Taylor is one of my fav.
Dungeon Crawler Carl series is fantastic for litrpg. Audiobooks all the way on those.
Blindsight by Peter Watts
Other authors I can’t go wrong with - Blake Crouch, Andy Weir, Exurb1a, Cixin Liu (prolly spelled that wrong), some of William Gibson stuff but not all, Dan Sugralinov (Russian litrpg), Greg Egan.
I’ll gladly tell you more if you like. I’d gladly take your recommendations as well.
Have you watched the original of The Crow from 1999? That’s an amazing movie. This shitfest of a remake that I refuse to acknowledge is the polar opposite.
If you’re an ashamed litrpg fan like me, then I recommend He Who Fights Monsters.
Oh yeah I’ve got that one for sure. Good stuff. Have you check out Chrysalis?
Not yet. I’ll add it to my wishlist.
In the spirit of shitting on popular things, litrpg edition: Battlemage Farmer was one of the worst books I ever read (listened to)
The list of shitty litrpg I’ve read is longer than the good ones for sure lol. Chrysalis is awesome, dude dies and comes back as an ant. Sounds silly and it is but it’s great fun watching this ant level up. Think the author is called Rhynoz
for some reason as a kid i really loved rx bandits album “those damn bandits” and when i listened to it again when i was older i thought it was absolute crap
its still the only rx bandits album ive listened to i should really check out their later stuff
Oh that album doesn’t exist lol. Def check out their other stuff, they’re incredible. Even they say those damn bandits doesn’t exist.
