A Hawaii national park has issued a new warning to tourists after a toddler was grabbed “in the nick of time” from falling off the rim of an erupting volcano.

The little boy wandered off from his family and “in a split second, ran straight toward the 400ft cliff edge” of the Kilauea volcano, the park said.

“His mother, screaming, managed to grab him”, the park added in its statement, when the toddler was “just a foot or so away from a fatal fall”.

Park ranger Jessica Ferracane, who observed the incident, told the BBC she hopes sharing details of the incident will help “prevent future tragedies”.

      The parents in the article did pay attention to their kids, which is why the kid isn’t dead. Now I’m not saying it’s a good idea to take a toddler to a volcano, but I don’t know all the details either. As another commentor said, parents aren’t robots and can’t watch their kids every second. Adding to that, toddlers are suicidal psychopaths with rubber bones. In the past an entire community looked out for kids and helped parents. Now we all live in our own silo and judge others instead of helping.

      So yeah, if I see a kid on a leash, I just make sure I don’t trip on the leash

      Toddlers are idiots with no sense of self preservation. All it takes is a single second for then to wander off. Parents aren’t robots that can monitor them 24/7

      This is exactly the sentence, word for word, that someone without kids would say. You can be the most attentive parent in the world and this can still happen. Parents (especially parents of kids under 2 or 3) are also chronically sleep deprived.
