Summary
Despite its slim head, the new Sofirn SR12 is a real thrower – the deep reflector and the Luminus SFT-25R make it possible. With a length of only 112 mm and a diameter of about 24 mm, it should still fit easily into your pocket, making it perfect as an EDC flashlight. It becomes even more interesting when combined with an optional short battery tube for 18350 batteries, which reduces its length to 79 mm.
They advertise it as an EDC, so why does it have strobe?
Because apparently every flashlight needs strobe. It’s there since they were made with microcontrollers. Someone might find a purpose for it eventually. But it’s fine as long as you don’t have to cycle through strobe every time.
Why shouldn’t it?
Because they all have to have strobe in order to fill out another bullet point on the spec sheet.
Same way that your camp silverware set inevitably came with a corkscrew on it even though you will never in a million years open a corked bottle of wine in the woods.
Just visiting from All. I’m compelled to vouch for opening corked wine in the woods.
And you’re telling me you used the dinky pigtail on the back of your Swiss Army knife rather than just knocking the bottle upside down against a tree limb or something to scooch the cork out like a real man?
(This is a great way to win those “I’ll bet you a dollar I can get the cork out of this without a corkscrew or breaking the bottle” types of bar bets, by the way. If you’re in civilization you can substitute the top of a door frame for a tree, or if you’re really patient just use the heel of your hand. The management disavows all responsibility if your glass winds up being 99% full of sediment, though.)
