When the Apollo astronauts landed on the Moon, they were in a region hit by direct sunlight. The Artemis astronauts will be going to the south pole of the Moon, where the Sun never rises more than a few degrees above the horizon and will cast long shadows. NASA is working on physical and virtual techniques to simulate what it will be like to stand near the Moon’s south pole to help astronauts train for these unique conditions.
They have quite a long time to plan for this, considering SpaceX won’t fulfill their end of the contract to get them to the moon for quite a long time…
