It’s the latter. He was ostensibly a liberal for years. Now that it benefits him, he’s far right.

Sorry, I inserted the subtext that it’s for financial gain. My “or” was that he cares more about ego trip and less about financial gain.
That’s what I thought.
The core tenets of far right in the UK and Germany just wouldn’t seem that relevant to a wealthy person. It’s not like he’s going to interact with migrants in any way.
What is it about the right that benefits him though? Small government and reduced regulation?
Those would be the biggest benefits to him, in my eyes.
