Well yeah, marines target the sort of people who can easily be trained to trade their lives to do violence for a cause. And other terror groups propagandize marines for that reason (and so they come pre trained). This happens to other branches of the military too, I’m just assuming they’re marines

Edit: ope looks like they’re army, which yeah similar story, just less rampant

That is an interesting theory and could be true in some cases. It’s worth mentioning that looking a bit deeper than seeing a merc for hire is probably better. TBH, that generalization kinda pissed me off.

I ain’t mad at you though. Its easy to see the problem that way.

I would speculate the root cause has more to do with disillusionment than anything else. Service members are filled with tons of garbage and false expectations, essentially propaganda, for a number of years. Once they leave service, they tend to see the world and their country a different way and it can be extremely disappointing.

There is absolutely no way I can begin to summarize this problem here, on social media. It’s a huge issue and not properly discussed here.

It’s a problem with many causes and not very many solutions.

You’re right, there are other groups and other factors and it’s not just those people targeted by military service. And I’ll even add that the military has begun trying to recruit less of those people. My point comes from what I saw in the late 00s and early 10s as a teenager. And I know in less well off areas the recruitment strategy was far more “we’ll get you out and give you an education when you’re done”. But I also know that the far right has long been specifically targeting people going into the military when most of the far left veterans I know waited until they got out
