US was founded on Capitalism and is a basket case of rampant Greedy Capitalism, Slavery, War Profiteering and Bullying. It has always been the case and has never stopped. Ever since the British tried stopping George Washington from usurping American Indians’ land. The lofty ideals were mere veneer.
The only thing that has changed is that there are many more players in the field and US’ shortcomings as a modern society is getting apparent.
I don’t think that’s accurate. I cannot fathom why people think it’s necessary to say dramatic yet untrue things when they’re trying to get a point across. Sure, the main point you’re trying to make is true but when your opening statement is incorrect you’re just undermining your entire point.
The united states was not founded on capitalism because capitalism wasn’t a prevalent force. It was founded on slavery.

True; no notes.
always been the case and has never stopped
This is an oversimplification of history. It makes for a powerful speech but it’s pretty garbage as far as convincing anyone who doesn’t already agree with you.
Ever since the British tried stopping George Washington from usurping American Indians’ land.
I’m gonna need a citation for this it’s entirely possible this is referencing something I’ve never heard of, but it’s also possible that it’s lionizing the British because “America bad”.
George Washington was a land speculator and the Proclamation of 1763 after the French and Indian wars had prohibited westward settlements beyond the Appalachian mountains.
Capitalism is just a modern substitute for colonization without the violent means of grabbing others properties or means of sustenance. America is a colonizers dream.

Can you show a single decade in the 250 years of US when it has stopped bullying, waging war or colonizing other countries, not directly but by causing coups, killing leaders of other countries.
Capitalism is just a modern substitute for colonization
Firstly, that’s not true. Secondly, even if that were true, it doesn’t contradict my statement.
show a single decade
I disagree that “Always” works in the granularity of decades. With that said, the FDR years are usually a good example for cases such as these, and he was president for more than 10 years. Unless of course you want to consider fighting actual Nazis and their allies as all of those 3.

That is a good example of a decade of non aggression by US, I would agree. One could say the isolationist policies, and reluctance to join League or World Court was a failure but that would just be splitting hairs. Having said that even the World War I had a Christmas truce. FDR years doesn’t make US any less of a bully or a war profiteer.
Huh, I never knew that. Thank you for telling me.
You can look into Mississippi Land Company founded by George Washington for prospecting lands beyond the Appalachian mountains prohibited by the Proclamation.

I’m not really arguing that the US doesn’t have a horrible history or that it isn’t currently a force for evil. I’m trying to encourage more nuance and accuracy in the arguments of my fellows because those are the areas where they appear to lack the most. There are communities of people who think critically but are put off from leftist arguments by those flaws and thus are insulated from the underlying truth.

The company was formed and petitioned the Crown before the proclamation.
Capitalism is defined by the relationship of the employer and employee. Slaves aren’t employees. You’re just lumping every bad thing under “capitalism.”

I’m bored now. Critique over.

It continued its workings even after the proclamation. It was formed before it.
Slavery is the ultimate form of capitalism where humans are “securitized” into commodities/capital.
