Most pigeons are the feral descendants of a cross-bred & domesticated non-native bird known as the rock-dove. They were called this because these doves would lay their eggs on cliff faces directly onto the exposed rock with just enough twigs and debris to ensure the eggs wouldn’t roll off the edge.
