Hi r/firefox 👋,

The address bar is one of the most prominent areas in any browser, and Firefox is no exception. Understanding its importance, the Firefox team has been working on a set of complementary features designed to improve discoverability and security of the Firefox address bar.

With this set of features landing in Firefox Beta 135, we need your expertise to help us test these enhancements by participating in this campaign, which will be live on January 9th!

The top 5 contributors will each receive a $50 voucher to shop at Mozilla’s swag stores as a thank-you for your efforts.

One example that I think is a step backward: "Search term persistence ". I don’t want this, I want to be able to see the URL I’m visiting. I think I’m able to remember what my search was. This UX “improvement” doesn’t add any value at all, it straight up removes value.

To be fair, there are features I like, though: Moving the search buttons into a separate menu is a good choice if you ask me.

Also, this all is highly subjective.

The search term persistence is nice, when you want to change what you searched for, e.g. add another word to narrow it down more. It’s been the behavior on mobile for a while, and I was skeptical at first, too, but you just really don’t need to see the URL of your search engine. Well, unless you’re trying to add it to the browser, but at that point, the search term persistence won’t yet happen.

Yeah the search persistence is the only one that raised an eyebrow for me. I think it’s cool as long as is easy and obvious to get url if you want.

The @keyword thing seems cool to me. I use the various shortcuts (random symbols) for those occasionally and have to relook them up so a slightly longer but easier to remember alternative seems like it would be nice.
