My mom died and left me a house (a co-op if that matters) it has a lien on it for more then the house is worth. I’ve called real estate lawyers but none of them want to take me on. I think I just want to get rid of it but I want to talk to a lawyer before I do. Does anyone know what I should look for? Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the late reply. Definitely consult local counsel. Your state may have a directory for referrals to counsel. You may be able to get away with only an hour (or less) of legal consulting (+plus settlement (.eg a propionate section of the shares) if you’re willing to settle the matter with the lien holder.
Edit: again not legal advice. I’m not your lawyer.
