This is a Unitarian Universalist organization. I converted last year, and it’s an amazing community. Despite its Christian origins, it’s much broader than that: all faiths and no faith welcome in one building. No one tells you what you must believe besides the inherent dignity and worth of your fellow humans. The organization is run democratically and believes in improving the present world rather than waiting for heaven after we die.
My UU faith is really one of the few things keeping me going through the worst of my depression and anxiety. It feels like liberal democracy enshrined in religion, and the focus on love and support should resonate with people of all major faiths & humanists.
Check out a UU sometime. It’s not the Catholic Church I grew up with, and I’m really happy it exists.
The UUs offer the positive social and community elements of a church, without the (for me) negatives of heavy faith and judgmentalism. I’m not a member or regular, but I’ve attended, and it’s the only church I’d willingly attend again.
