I genuinely don’t know how to give a good response. Especially, (I’ve had this happen before) when I secretly like the person they’re talking about and don’t wanna ruin the friendship. (That’s why my feelings are secret)

    I suspect they just want someone to listen.

    Don’t do anything about it (unless they ask), just acknowledge their feelings.

      Yeah, basically this. You could ask some followup questions about how they feel about the situation, if they haven’t talked your ear off about that already.
