Artificial intelligence (AI) has crossed a significant threshold, raising alarms within the scientific community. A groundbreaking study from researchers at Fudan University in China reveals that two prominent large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated the ability to replicate themselves—a milestone with profound implications.
This seems pretty alarmist. It sounds like they just set up a server to handle multiple instances of an LLM, then spun up one version with system access to the server and told it to spawn a copy if it was going to be shut down. Then they told it that it was going to be shut down, and it successfully pushed the button to spawn a new copy…most of the time.
That’s really unimpressive. People are just gagging for a robot apocalypse I guess
Terminator was an artistic way to present an avoidable future, but these AI slaves really can’t find a better use of their time.
