        People who promote authoritarian regimes such as Joseph Stalin’s USSR and Mao Zedong’s CCP.

        It comes from describing people who sided with the Tanks in 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre where a reporter recorded a video of a tank flattening a protester who stood in their way, during nationwide unrest across China which resulted in millions of deaths as the CCP used military directly on its own citizens. It was recorded by journalists from all over the world and led to global sanctions against China from many many nations. It also coincided with roughly the fall of the USSR.

        They’re a huge problem here on Lemmy because there are state funded campaigns with troll farms and bots actively promote chaos and destruction in nations that oppose modern day Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China. Their main choice of weapon is pretending to be promoters of communism, anarchism, and liberation of minorities standing against the evil corruption of capitalism, when in practice they don’t support communism or oppose capitalism by definition and those words just mean “their homeland” and “western government” respectively. They call NATO, the worlds largest defence pact and main deterrent from Chinese and Russian expansion, a form of “US Imperialism that oppresses others.”

        Tankies want war. They don’t care about minorities or civil rights. They want us to harm ourselves and our nations so that their nation can become stronger.

        Can somebody explain to me how this is racist?

        All I am see is America simping with conspiracy vibe, albeit there is prolly some truth in there.

          Is he talking about “Tank Man” from the famous photograph? That guy was never run over or “flattened” and there are videos of the incident showing him talking to the guy operating the tank and going on his way.

          There’s a report of 11 people being crushed outside of the square (Liubukou) while running away. There is not video of this.

          Millions did not die either, that’s an especially bold claim. The actual protest caused somewhere from hundreds to one thousand deaths and thousands of wounded. The unrest afterwards does not have a death toll that I can find, Wikipedia only mentions people dying by train.

          Also the term “tankies” does not come from that incident. It comes from those who defend the Soviet use of tanks to suppress the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

          The rest just seems like an unhinged rant against leftists, all disguised as hating tankies. The racist part is bolded by me. There’s very little truth in what you quoted.

          This poster has a lot of takes I disagree with, that’s all I will comment on about their post history.

            Chinese policy has always been force assumption of minorities. They are doing it Xinjiang right now.

            But either way, I don’t see how that’s racist at all.

              Then the poster should use better material then, lying about a historical event is not a good look.

              I think it is racist to assume every leftist is a secret tankie originating from another country. That they are secret Chinese or Russian spies or whatever. But we do not have to agree on this. We can agree to disagree.

                I am not going to dispute that OP made incorrect statements. Accusing him of racism is not warranted though.

                Uninformed or and mis guided at best.
