Summary

Brazilian President Lula da Silva warned that any U.S. tariffs on Brazilian goods would be met with reciprocal measures.

Responding to Trump’s threats of heightened tariffs, Lula emphasized a relationship based on mutual respect. Trump has used tariffs to pressure countries on trade, migration, and security, recently targeting Canada, Mexico, and Colombia.

Experts warn escalating tariffs could push Latin American nations closer to China, now the region’s top trading partner.

Lula stressed Brazil’s sovereignty and past cooperation with both Republican and Democratic U.S. administrations.
