The judge’s sentence is 20 months short of the prosecution’s recommendation of 220 months and exponentially longer than the defense’s recommendation of 78 months.

Yeah, but nitpicking the article for a simple math error is a pretty weak critique, especially to warrent air quotes around journalist.
As someone following this case directly, the journalist did a very good job of conveying most of the information about what happened, including his habit of making claims about knives and “doubletapping” his victims.
The only actual issue they had is that they didn’t emphasize the fact presented at trial that the cop shot the victim once in the stomach, which downed him, stopped and looked around for 3 seconds where he saw a witness, then turned back to the victim and shot him in the head from several feet away.
He was not in immediate danger when he executed him, and was so blatantly sure he would not be held accountable, he executed him in front of a witness.
Still, the pretty short article captured the gist well, and gave a lot of good detail, including some i hadn’t seen before. Overall fine work.
