I’m sure we’ve all seen db0’s post on fediverse about the success of linking c/piracy to r/piracy; and due to the ongoing reddit exodus, there is an opportunity:

What if we talk to the reddit mods of equivalent communities, and ask them to link to the lemmy version? It seems it could be a great success. I’ve even made a post for these new users: https://lemm.ee/post/54814946 and the mods, to explain in as short time as i can how to get completely set for the threadiverse.

Ditto. I thought about contacting r/linguistics and r/asklinguistics mods; if they showed desire to migrate their subreddits to Lemmy, I’d gladly help them out. But there are a thousand ways that this could be interpreted wrong, and I get really anxious thinking on them.

Why do you get anxious? That the mods will think that you are being pushy, or that the community is like toxic or something? The former can be dealt with, while the latter might be best to leave well enough alone:-).

        Let’s see:

        • “You’re being pushy” is one of them indeed. I might not be the first one contacting them to talk about this.
        • Assuming that I want to merge [email protected] with their community. I definitively don’t, but the expectation itself could create unnecessary conflict.
        • Assuming that I’m only shilling the Fediverse, with no regards to the well-being of their communities, when it’s both.
        • Assuming that I have further, hidden motivations.

…and so goes on. Plus much like PugJesus I get anxious thinking “this is an unforgivable interruption of someone else’s life”,.

Yes the former is not so bad but the rest makes it more complicated - they might be power mad dictators, or they could be wondering if you were. Perhaps if they make a post on the topic you could speak up then, with them having made the first move.

Yup. I don’t even mind creating an account there, if they mention the topic officially, to talk with them about this stuff. But going out of my way to tell them “pls join Lemmy”? I’d rather not!

You might create it now. New accounts can be shadow-banned at first, it’s better if the account is a few days/weeks old before using links in comments

Urgh… and here I go, farming 1k karma in r/AskReddit. (I’ll simply ask a chatbot to give me "one line witty and funny replies to [post title].)

Nah :P I used this “one line witty and funny replies in r/AskLebbit” approach all the time, when I created troll accounts. All the change is just automatising the process of getting a few ideas.

Plus… honestly? If Reddit gets filled with bot-generated replies, that’s good.
