Ken Martin, the longtime leader of Minnesota’s state Democratic Party organization, won the vote to lead the national party committee this month.

I would argue the conditions necessary for a similar event to the collapse of the Whigs simply do not exist anymore. You’re never going to peel enough people off with the level of ideological polarization that we have now.
