    He’s using quotation marks for emphasis I think. It’s not uncommon of his generation in my experience.

    I think it’s a holdover from using typewriters, which didn’t really have bold or italic options. You could underline, but it meant going back and typing underscores. Much easier to just add quotes as you type.

    Why he feels the need to all-caps emphasize his name is beyond me.

      Huh, I don’t think I’ve ever before considered the original purpose of underscores. (I’ve used typewriters but not much and not for a long time.) Thanks!
