Also, at least in my state (a red, semi-regressive state) you can register for and vote in the primaries completely by mail. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Democratic_Party_presidential_primaries Joe Biden won that primary with a mere 20 million votes. Bernie had 10, out of a potential voter pool of 87 million.
