They are a category of social media called “Link Aggregators”, posting links to stuff is what you’re supposed to do. News, articles, projects, blog posts, GitHub repos, random one off websites, YT/PT videos etc doesn’t matter who made it. What matters is you think it’s cool or at least think others will find it cool and you post it. That’s it.
