Explanation: The Falklands War was started by an attempt of Argentina to take the Falkland Islands, located near the Argentinian coast, from the UK. Despite the islands being economically and militarily unimportant, being made of 99% rocks and sheep, the UK was not about to take the seizure laying down, and responded with force, resulting in a clear British victory.

The war is always a kind of wild one to me, given that Argentina hadn’t had a presence there in about 150 years but still wanted to take it back despite it being relatively inconsequential. It’s not like they were in there liberating anyone of Argentine descent; their people were long gone.

They had the islands for either two or four years, and the British never explicitly abandoned them, just left them uninhabited.

They were, for a period of time.

Seriously, why do so many people on this platform misunderstand what I’m saying, then get pedantic?

Yeah, that’s not how something like that works. If they hadn’t responded with force, other nations would have started looking at their other overseas territories, wondering if they’d bother to defend them or not.

Besides, the same question could be asked of Argentina, if they’re so worthless, why take them?

I never said the Brits should have taken the seizure laying down? I just said it was over something that was pretty worthless in and of itself, hence the meme being of a possum defending literal trash.

          Yes, but it’s their trash

Besides, from what I’ve heard, the Falklands are quite nice.
