    I’m really curious what history would have looked like if Carthage’s oligarchs had been willing to support Hannibal during the decade or so he was doing what he wanted and destroying Roman legions about as fast as they could raise them.

    Well, a big part of the problem is that Hannibal’s stunning victories dried up once Rome decided to stop feeding him legions. Hannibal killed more Romans in the first 3 years of his campaign than he did in the next 10.

      Luckily the Romans knew Hannibal had a preset kill limit. Knowing his weakness, they sent wave after wave of their own men at him, until he reached his limit and shutdown.
