Heyo, hope you don’t mind an American (feels like I should apologize for my country so sorry about that) lurking in the background. Been trying to get a feel for the news over there and see what life is like across the sea. I know too many places get innundated with americans though so if you’d prefer conversation and comments stay among locals, just let me know and I’ll lurk quietly.

I work with quite a few Americans, and I’m more than happy to hear about your week too. Scotland being quite famous for it’s welcome I hope you feel you can contribute too. As you can see posts are very welcome, needed even - I tend towards a post a day myself. And comments in here or on posts are also a good idea.

I know its turbulent across the pond, so enjoy a (fairly) Trump free part of the world, and enjoy hearing about the old country and lurking too. Have you ever been I’m Scotland, or have some connections even?

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. I’ve not been yet unfortunately, it’s still a dream. Closest I’ve been is connecting flights in Heathrow lol. I do have some ancestral connections through my mother’s side of the family to a couple of the clans, but nothing active. Just genealogy.
But that’s led to me growing up with an interest in the country and have wanted to visit/live there for some time.

With things changing for the worse here, I’ve been seriously considering emigrating from here, and Scotland is on the short list. We’d like to visit before moving but the state of things here might force us into untested waters in the name of self preservation.

I should be able to hopefully contribute, I’m trying to read the news and listen to people in the area to get a handle on day to day life, and avoid rose-tinted glasses should we need to bugger off. It is a little concerning seeing some of the SNP (think I have the right term) underestimate how bad our country has screwed up though. I don’t know if they are trying to allay fears in their people, but it’s a bad idea to think the US is stable or an ally in any way at the moment. I don’t envy Starmer trying to maintain a balance there, but the gov really need to err on the side of caution when dealing with the Great Cheeto or his ilk.

Apologies for the political rant. It’s not a good time here. Would question posts be something you guys would mind? Like I’m curious on your opinions with housing, or Scottish politics, or thoughts on schools, or favored haunts etc. I do try to research things so shouldn’t be much that’s “google it” material since I mostly want to see your opinions.
