I don’t have a brand new CRT to look at, but the one I do have has pretty bad contrast. I can tell when it’s on with no picture because at best the darkest color is dark grey. Couldn’t tell you if it’s always been that way or just gotten that way over the past ~25 years.
By comparison, the CRT monitor I have does great contrast. I still use the TV. The monitor just sits in my closest. Don’t have the heart to toss it.
