i hope everyone here is also aware that
to people in Japan this is a worthless (doesn’t accomplish anything) use of kana because it communicates nothing to Japanese speakers
for East/Southeast Asian people in western countries, this type of font is a reminder of how they are constantly asked by non-Asians to read/translate Chinese or any and all non-roman non-arabic script languages, regardless of where they were born/raised or their families’ relation/lack of relation to countries that use Chinese script.
not saying the pic can’t be enjoyed, but enjoying without being aware is just contributing to the ignorance being spread by the (probably) ignorant coffee shop.
I’m pretty sure the irony and ridiculousness is the entire joke 😅 if it just said something in Japanese that wouldn’t be a joke. If it just said something in English that also wouldn’t be a joke
The joke is that they wrote total gobbledygook in Japanese by using a ridiculous “Asian look” font, and if you read what the characters actually say it’s hilariously nonsensical.
I don’t think you can enjoy the image without being aware. Its not enjoyable otherwise 😅
