Hey, I am just wondering where the conversation happens for Lemmy development, I would assume its on lemmy somewhere but I can’t find it. Is there a /c/lemmydev or /c/meta ?

For new people, please note that lemmy.ml is also a marxist-leninist instance (hence the “ml”) and tends to be the home of some more abrasive users of lemmy. Unless you’re into that philosophy I’d reccomend only using it for dev discussion and info on the main Lemmy “project”.

Otherwise you’re liable to get shit on for uttering more “mainstream leftist” views because their userbase doesn’t think you’re left enough. That makes it sound worse than it is, but there are some users who have given up on Lemmy because of dogpiling by ml users.

Warning people to stay inside their bubbles to avoid the awful possibility of reading things they disagree with. A nice metaphor for our times.

Sometimes you want to just go to the grocery store without getting pummeled by dodgeballs

I can see why you would say this but the real issue in my opinion is not the annoying users, but the extremely intolerant mods and admins who will remove any factual information that is inconvenient to their narratives and ban you for trivial infractions. Even mild criticism or discussion of historical facts around the CPC or Hamas will result in an immediate ban, sometimes from the entire instance. It’s not possible to have healthy discussions on these instances.

I don’t mind discussing those ideas elsewhere but it simply can’t happen on Lemmy.ml due to the restrictive moderation.

Ok. I was hoping to talk to them about contributing some specific features to help fight against bots and include some privacy tech, but I don’t have the mental bandwidth for drama.

Probably fine as long as you don’t talk about politics or anything related to China or other “socialist” countries. But yeah I get the feeling.

Someday I hope someone else will be running this project, or we all end up shifting to another federated software like PieFed or Mbin. You could consider contributing to those projects instead if you are wary of the lemmy devs–they’re all interoperable. But the idea behind the fediverse and open source software is that even the devs will have limited power, so I think we’re still better off than on Reddit, despite these issues.
