That’s a very difficult question tbh my initial thoughts are less than 1 month. Abortion should not be used as birth control and obviously abortions that are necessary for either mothers safety or under dire circumstances like rape/underage etc… or severe instances of fetal health should all be legal much later as anatomy scans for babies health are needed to identify many serious deformities.

I’m glad I asked. You have a more nuanced answer than I expected.

Your reply made me curious. You’re supposed to abortions for birth control. But you say less than one month. Why not at conception and keep your exemptions for rape or medical emergencies?

It is my attempt at forming a middle ground to save as many children as possible, especially since 2nd trimester abortions are still very common, making up around 6% of total abortions for the data that I recently checked (which I think was for US 2015ish @1.3 million abortions average that year). My personal stance is no abortions unless medically necessary or in situations of rape/underage, etc… but that opinion is very inflammatory and will never be accepted large scale until a point in time where fetal development is more understood and babies are given right of life before passing through the magical vaginal canal that makes them babies as opposed to fetus/parasites. With how available and successful contraceptives are, abortion really shouldn’t be a legitimate solution. I believe that two consenting adults make a choice when deciding to have sex and as scary as having a child can be, procreation is the essential part of our species future and the “fetus” should have all the rights of every other member of this species. Not wanting your developing baby is neither sane nor a convincing argument to kill it. Just because someone is seen as a burden does not give anyone the right to murder them and ease the burden.

I agree life is important. But we as a society do a lot of killing. Whether it’s animals for their products. Letting homeless people die because we don’t give them housing. We don’t support social programs that result in deaths and very poor living conditions. War. Slave children mining cobalt for my computer so I can play games.

Do you consider all this loss of life equal? Or are unborn humans special to you? Does quality of life factor into your morality?

Unborn humans are just humans and all are equally important on my moral compass. Child trafficking/rape is another huge issue I’m passionate about, I think the unborn amd the weak/defenseless resonate stronger with me because I put myself in their “shoes” and being unable to save themselves is such a horrible position to find yourself.

Our society does a lot of killing and I hate war mongering from all political parties, 90% of it is oil wars or political maneuvering/posturing. In a perfect world we wouldn’t have the issues you mention but unfortunately our world is chaos and I believe we are in a spiritual war, if you are not religious then a war of good vs. evil should still resonate. I can agree on all topics that our government and citizens need to do better, homelessness is rampant, veterans have no support or funding coming back from war, living conditions especially of children in inner cities, etc…but we can’t let the existence of other problems blind us to another.
