I understand that this could be rather controversial, but I feel like AI is coming whether we wanted to or not. I know some companies have already started taking steps towards AI and automation in general, others are avoiding it until it becomes more robust.
How have you or your company integrated AI into your workflow so far?
Do you believe that you’ve benefited from the use of AI at your workplace, or do you feel like it’s introducing more problems than it’s solving?
My workplace hasn’t really incorporated AI or anything yet, but I have found that chatGPT has helped me clean up a lot of my emails from being either too wordy or not professional enough.
I’ve also used it to source appropriate finishes and coatings for designs for very specific applications… Things that would have normally taken a half-hour plus to search around and read up on, takes me only a minute or two as it points me in the right direction. I don’t believe anything that it says point blank, but it’s like Wikipedia, it’s a fantastic starting point to focus your research in a specific direction.
I find that it’s a fantastic rubber duck, you can ping your ideas and hypotheses off of it and it helps you kind of figure out/sort out your ideas a little bit easier (versus having to constantly go and talk to my co-worker).
I do hope your workplace is aware that you’re using it and okay with you putting internal-to-the-company information into the database that ChatGPT pulls from. I know this isn’t always a concern, but when it is, it is a huge issue.
They’re aware. There’s no policy for it yet, but I’m pretty careful not to put any identifying information in there (from projects names). I keep the specifics vague and alter before I send everything out.
