The first 4-5 pages show new content every day as expected but once I go over about 5 pages it only shows old content which is very annoying. I’m currently running version 1.8.2 for both the front end and back end of lemmy. Are there any solutions to this?

Will new comments get worse as people encounter this problem and comment on old content without realizing it?
Very possible, but also we are far less obligated to always have capital H HOT content here on the fediverse. Maybe interacting with old content isn’t so bad?
Perhaps, except that years-old content is less likely to be valuable. News of any category is basically worthless.
