there’s osm, but that doesn’t have the convenience of being able to just chuck in a place and have it tell me how to drive there, which I need if I’m at a red light and need to know how to get somewhere. ty :)

Good tip. Until an app can reasonably look up an address, it’s not a very good map/navigation app.
I wouldn’t say that it’s not a good app, but that it’s a feature that hasn’t been implemented yet. There’s a lot to like. For me, full offline and being FOSS are the two big ones. It does get me where I want to go!
Since this post, I read another post about contributing to OSM to make it better, so I started with Street Complete, logging addresses, bus stops and answering questions about the places I go. With a copilot, I even went and entered all the addresses of houses in a smallish neighborhood, over 200 entries! I like to believe that doing that may help improve the address lookup for somebody.
