I could be wrong, but I don’t believe Speaker McCarthy will offer much resistance to this request. What are your thoughts?

It is a hilarious waste of time. Of all the issues Congress could unite on it’s the circus act that is this bullshit. We are a dumb country.

Regardless of your thought on UAP, there are claims of abuse of spending with the DOD. Do you honestly think we shouldn’t investigate claims of government abuse of funding? This is more than just about UAP it’s about groups in the government working without oversight.

A very powerful cross-standpoint argument I’ve not really considered since it’s not my tax dollars.

This is my thought as well. Regardless of whether UAPs are prosaic or non-prosaic, there are still accusations under oath of murder and misappropriation of government funds/bypassing government oversight. These things are a big deal.

Not to be too cynical but it seems misappropriated tax dollars are a bigger scandal to the US establishment and public than the secret services killing people in the name of national security.

I believe most people would agree that some state secrets are worth killing for, and if this secret is worth killing for will be a matter of debate.

But I think nobody would agree misappropriating tax dollars or even funding legitimate closed Special Access Programs without government oversight is ever OK.

Unusual bipartisanship in the American political climate is a major clue for me, signifying the importance of this matter, whatever its outcome might be. Typically, the two sides struggle to reach consensus even on basic facts, but here we find them united on this issue. Clearly, something is happening behind the scenes.

I respect that we have a differing point of view, but I refrain from calling those who deny the phenomenon “hilariously uninformed” but rather of a different point of view based on a different set of knowledge and conclusions.

Would you join me in working towards a somewhat neutral or even positive comment environment?

While I generally approve of the actions Congress is taking on this topic, and I am very interested in all this UAP business, I actually agree with a lot of his sentiment. I mean, my god, why couldn’t it be healthcare or UBI they united on… This might be a good step, but, people are also literally dying right now that Congress could be actively saving, and I’m not referring to anything UAP related with that. We have massive systemic issues, so this UAP stuff can feel like a slap in the face to people that are suffering. For example, my wife and I are being forced out of our home next year due to uncontrolled rent increases in our area. I’d be very inclined to be (more) furious at Congress as well if I wasn’t a sucker for scifi.

EDIT: I also couldn’t reply directly to him, for whatever reason. Just lemmy things, I guess.

I actually agree with a lot of his sentiment.

In many ways, so do I. Why is there bi-partisan support and 14 high level public servants present on the sideline of the hearings? Publicity and riding the wave of public interest. It is a circus. A dumb country? Or the results of decades of extreme propaganda by separate political and social factions, intellectually paralyzing the general public? 🤔

I still hope we’re able to express these experiences and feelings in a manner that invites debate and discussion, since I believe that’s the only reasonable way of fixing these issues.

We have massive systemic issues, so this UAP stuff can feel like a slap in the face to people that are suffering.

I think I understand your sentiment. I think there’s a chance a proper disclosure of this topic would force a breakdown of the political status quo and among other things allow the utilization of humankinds top technology which could lead to an unfathomable rise of every human’s living standard, prosperity and growth for all people and a future for humankind.

Can you see how every step not in the direction of disclosure is saddening for people like me?

Poverty and hunger. Lack of energy, housing, and reasonably priced healthcare… I think things like these could be a thing of the past if we are able to pursue the right future.

Yet I understand there’s issues here and now, and the future can’t come at the cost of the present.

How can we discuss these topics without feeling hurt or attacked by each other? I try to leave my feelings at home even though it can be hard some times. If I forget myself, I hope someone will tell me. If anybody find any better ways to go about topics like these, do share.

my wife and I are being forced out of our home next year due to uncontrolled rent increases

I’m sorry to hear that. My family experienced the same in the late 80’s bubble. It’s difficult. I hope you find a way to better your situation.

You share you’d be more furious if you weren’t a sucker for sci-fi. But I’m pretty sure they’ve taken our real sci-fi future and locked it up in secret programs. I don’t know about you but that makes me… frustrated.
