It fucking sucks. There’s been a lot of discussion in other trans masc spaces about “transandrophobia” and this seems to absolutely demonstrate it. We aren’t treated seriously in spaces that should be welcoming for us.
People assume “trans” means trans woman. Spaces for trans people are often for trans women. Jamison Green wrote a while back about us not really having our own community, decades ago, and it still feels true today.
I think it’s more likely an extension of misandry, considering how much cis men’s suffering is also trivialized/minimized in general, and considering the following:
I’ve once actually seen a woman (don’t know if she was trans or not, if so, she definitely passed) describe a trans man’s transition as an act of ‘gender treason’ (she called him a “gender traitor” the same way a racist white guy might call a white person a ‘race traitor’ for dating a non-white person).
Her interpretation of the transition was that this was a woman with “internalized misogyny” who had been brainwashed into “joining the oppressors” (read: men).
yep to me it reads as “you’re a man now. Enjoy not being allowed to have your own space.”
