I’ve got a lot of stories I’ve been following off/on for a while, but I’ll share a few of the ones I’m quite into these days. (Also, I’m not good at reviews but I’ll try my best!)

    Mark of the Fool

Before I go into why I like it, note that this story is a “stub”, meaning part of it has been taken off of royal road, to comply with Amazon’s kindle unlimited policy.

The main character, Alex, trained hard to become a wizard, but unfortunately receives the “Mark of the Fool” from the local that interferes with his ability to cast magic and could rope him into being a lackey for the heroes fighting the “Ravener”. But Alex doesn’t let this stop him from acheiving his dreams and manages to turn this hindrance into a useful tool.

I really enjoy the characters, and find a lot of the main cast likeable. I like how compassionate Alex is with his friends, and how merciless he is with his enemies. It’s a certainly fits within the genre of progression fantasy, and the progress Alex and his friends make towards being all-powerful wizards is exciting to watch.

Surviving the Succession (A Transmigration Fantasy)

Kayla, the main character from Earth, wakes up in the body of a character from a web novel she’d been reading set in ancient China. According to the web novel, this character is doomed to die as a political rival in the imperial family’s succession struggle. As Kayla struggles to survive she finds herself more and more caught up in the political intrigue of the imperial family.

I enjoy how well researched this political fantasy is. At the end of each chapter the author provides some cultural notes on ancient china, makes the setting feel very real. There’s also a lot of excitement and tension, as each time Kayla solves one problem many others pop up, and she must balance on razor edge considering the others players on the board are the Emperor, the imperial princes, the emperor’s mother and others with powerful backing and influence. One wrong move could lead to her death.

    Necroepilogos

A dark post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, horror. I was surprised how much this drew me in as when it comes to horror movies or TV I’m usually quite squeamish.

Elpida, the main character, wakes up after dying, in a body reanimated by science so advanced it’s incomprehensible. A few others wake up alongside her and she takes it upon herself to lead them through this bleak future where only the undead walk the earth.
