Costs are a big factor. Shit costs a lot of money to make nowadays. They used to use cheap cardboard and foam, models for shops flying through space, etc. now it all takes time and money to make us all go WOW!
Yeah, that is sad. I enjoy seeing futuristic aliens and ships too, but I guess I’ve never really understood why a lot of these shows have to look like movies now. I would be perfectly happy to see them cut those fancy effects way back and spend some of that money on some good writers to make a few more episodes. I’ve found I very rarely remember how good the CGI monster or alien building looked, but I often remember what the characters said.
It’s an interesting idea! Big Finish has been doing Doctor Who audio dramas for quite a number of years, presumably at least somewhat successfully, so there’s apparently a market for it. Khan was not on the top of my list of ideas to explore, (not even in my top 20) but I plan on trying it out once it’s available.
These idiots in Hollywood don’t do “new ideas”. They recycle everything. They only want things that will sell, not things that might, which is a big mistake in my opinion as people are now moving away from the big movie houses to make films that matter. They are also not good at understanding what actually makes a popular IP popular.
for me, the foam rocks and rubber foreheads were part of the fun, like watching a magic show where you know where to look. i would be thrilled if all of SNW looked like the TOS parody from this episode, especially if it brought back 24-episode seasons. probably not a common sentiment though lol
Not judt costs but the production schedule for the actors and crew. 23 episodes is one every 2 weeks with just a couple weeks off for the entire year. This also lead to a lot of garbage filler episodes regardless of the series. I do prefer more that 8-10 episodes but 20+ is a bit much too.

No, I’m not as old as I sound! ;-)
@stargazingpenguin Well, I think I just figured out why Paramount is rolling the dice on making a new Trek series a podcast.

@stargazingpenguin Given that Doctor Who and Star Trek are canon now in both franchises I think I know where they got it from.

I mean, I agree.
