We had all the doors and windows open during the extreme heat a few weeks back. I saw a big spider scurry out of my room at 2am and because it was so late I had to suppress my little-girl scream and just close my door with the gap at the bottom stuffed.
Anyway, it’s been on the back of my mind since. Every time I feel the slightest crawling sensation on my body I’m wondering if this is the moment where I pay the price for letting him go.
Just now in the kitchen I turned the light on and there he was under the kitchen table. One of the house mates took care of it thank god. I feel like I’m finally relaxing after all those weeks! Honestly, I never want to open a door or window again without an insect screen.
If you’re not afraid of spiders, I envy you.

If you can handle them, they are great to have around for just the reasons you said. I got over my fear of spiders in my teens, and was able to let smaller ones crawl around my hand when I put them outside. I hadn’t actually seen ones quite this big before so I’m struggling again. But there’s one outside my bedroom window laying eggs and weaving webs. I’ve left her there so far.
It’s funny because on of my favourite movies is Alien, a movie with all kinds of creepy things. I watch it and the sequel a few times per year. But a spider smaller than my hand comes along and suddenly I can’t tolerate it! :D
